Tropical Disturbance Advisory: Will Dexter Visit New Orleans?

new orleans projected rainfall for tropical distrubance

As a Tropical Disturbance approaches the Gulf towards New Orleans landfall expected Thursday (July 17th) – Saturday ( July 19, 2025), we want to provide you with an important update regarding our operations and express our gratitude to those working tirelessly to ensure residents and the guests of our city are prepared.

For 45 years, the krewe at Jean Lafitte House has stood strong in the face of many tropical disturbances. We've weathered the fury of major hurricanes: Katrina's devastating embrace in 2005, Ida's powerful punch in 2021, and the recent Hurricane Francine that swept through in September 2024. Like the ancient live oaks whose roots run deeper with each storm's passing, our experience and resilience have created a foundation as solid as the French Quarter's time-worn cobblestones. While each storm presents its unique challenges, our team’s commitment to safety and our community remains unwavering as we prepare to face this year’s upcoming wave of weather in the Gulf.

As this tropical visitor approaches our shores, we urge all guests to embrace the wisdom that generations of New Orleanians have passed down like family recipes. Stay safe, avoid driving or walking through flowing water—for even the most innocent-looking puddle can hide strong currents. Follow the guidance of local authorities, and keep informed about the progress of the Tropical Disturbance through official channels.

We will continue to monitor the weather closely and provide appropriate updates. The safety and well-being of our guests, staff, and community remain our highest priority. Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation during this time. Together, we will weather this storm, as we have done many times before.

Stay safe,

Your Family at Jean Lafitte House
